Hive3 gives you several ways to sign in and two extra layers of protection: passkeys and 2-step verification. All of them live in one place, so you can set up the sign-in methods that suit you and keep a safe way back in if you lose a device.
SettingsAccount#Ways to sign in
On the sign-in page you can use any of these:
- Email. Enter your address and Hive3 emails you a magic link. Select the link to sign in.
- A social account. Google, GitHub, X or Discord.
- A wallet. Select Connect Wallet and sign a message with a wallet you own.
- A passkey. Select Sign in with passkey and approve on your device.
Under Sign-in methods in Account settings you can link more social accounts. Select Connect next to a provider and complete its sign-in. Linked methods show a Linked badge, and any other methods on your account are listed under Also linked.
#Verify your email
A verified email is how Hive3 sends you account notices and lets communities send you newsletters you have opted in to.
Open the verification window
Under Email in Account settings, select Verify email. If you have no email yet, a banner at the top of the page offers Add email.
Request a code
Enter your Email address and select Send verification code. Hive3 emails you a 6-digit code.
Enter the code
Type the Verification code and select Verify. If the code does not arrive, select Resend code once the countdown ends.
After too many wrong attempts you need to request a new code.
#Add a passkey
A passkey lets you sign in with your fingerprint, face or device PIN instead of a password. It stays on your device or in your device's password manager.
Open Security
In Account settings, scroll to the Security card and find Passkeys.
Add one
Select Add a passkey and follow your browser or device prompt. If 2-step verification is on, Hive3 first asks for a code from your authenticator app or a recovery code.
Confirm
A message says Passkey added. It appears in the list as Passkey 1, Passkey 2 and so on, with the date you created it and when it was last used.
Use Rename to give a passkey a name you recognize, such as "Work laptop". Use Remove to delete one you no longer use.
#Turn on 2-step verification
2-step verification asks for a 6-digit code from an authenticator app each time you sign in, so a stolen link or device alone is not enough to get into your account.
Start setup
In the Security card, under 2-step verification, select Turn on.
Add Hive3 to your authenticator app
Scan the QR code with an authenticator app such as Google Authenticator, 1Password or Authy. If you cannot scan it, select Copy to copy the secret key and enter it in the app. Then select Next.
Confirm a code
Type the current 6-digit code from the app into the box and select Verify.
Save your recovery codes
Hive3 shows a set of recovery codes. Select Copy all or Download .txt and keep them somewhere safe. Each code works once. Check I saved these codes, then select Done.
#Signing in with 2-step on
After you sign in, Hive3 shows a Confirm it's you screen. Use your passkey, enter your Authenticator code, or select Use a recovery code and type one of your XXXXX-XXXXX codes. Select Sign out if you want to leave without confirming.
#Manage 2-step verification
When it is on, the card shows how many recovery codes you have left.
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Turn off | Switches 2-step verification off. You confirm with an authenticator code or a recovery code. |
| New recovery codes | Replaces your codes with a fresh set. You confirm with an authenticator code. Old codes stop working. |
#Keep your account safe
- Add at least two ways to sign in, such as email plus a passkey.
- Turn on 2-step verification and store your recovery codes in a password manager.
- Never share a magic link, authenticator code or recovery code with anyone.
