Discord and Telegram

Honey Bee+

Connect a Discord channel or Telegram group so messages flow between it and your community chat.

If your members already talk on Discord or Telegram, you do not have to choose between the two. A chat integration connects a Discord channel or a Telegram group to your community's chat, so messages can flow between them in the direction you choose.

Who can do this: the owner, admins and moderators of a community on Honey Bee or higher. You also need to be an administrator of the Discord server or Telegram group you are connecting.

#Before you start

  • Your community chat is the shared chat for your members. See Messages.
  • Decide which channel (Discord) or group (Telegram) should be connected. Each integration links one target.

#Connect Discord

My HiveMy DashboardChat Settings
  1. Open Chat Settings

On your dashboard, select Chat Settings. The page is titled Chat Settings and starts with a short Instructions card.

  2. Add the Hive3 bot to your server

In the Discord Bot card, select Add Bot. Discord asks you to choose a server and approve the permissions the bot needs: view channels, send messages, manage messages, read message history and manage webhooks.

  3. Add the integration

Under Bot Integrations, select Add Integration. In the Add Bot Integration window, keep Platform set to Discord.

  4. Choose the channel

Enter your Discord Server ID and select Load channels. Then pick a text channel under Discord Channel.

  5. Choose a sync direction

Pick Bidirectional, Inbound or Outbound. See the table below. Select Add.

  6. Verify

The integration appears with a verification pending badge and a command that starts with /hive-verify. Post that exact command in the Discord channel as a server administrator. See Verify the connection.

#Connect Telegram

  1. Add the bot to your group

In the Telegram Bot card, select Add Bot, or add @hive3_bot to your Telegram group yourself. Make the bot an administrator of the group.

  2. Add the integration

Select Add Integration, set Platform to Telegram, and enter the Telegram Group ID.

  3. Choose a sync direction and add it

Pick a Sync Direction and select Add.

  4. Verify

Post the displayed /hive-verify command in the group as a group administrator.

#Choose a sync direction

DirectionWhat it does
BidirectionalMessages go both ways: from Discord or Telegram into your community chat, and from your community chat out to Discord or Telegram.
InboundMessages from Discord or Telegram appear in your community chat. Nothing is sent back.
OutboundMessages from your community chat are sent to Discord or Telegram. Nothing comes back.

You can change the direction later from the integration's own menu.

#Verify the connection

An integration does nothing until Hive3 has confirmed that you control the Discord server or Telegram group. Until then its badge reads verification pending and the controls are locked.

  1. Copy the /hive-verify command shown on the integration.
  2. Post it, exactly as shown, in the connected Discord channel or Telegram group. You must be an administrator there.
  3. Hive3 recognizes the command and the badge changes to active.

The command expires after 7 days. If it does, delete the integration and add it again to get a fresh one.

#Manage an integration

Each integration in the list shows its platform, the channel or group ID, and a status badge.

The badge tells you the state: active, paused or verification pending. A delivery issue badge means Hive3 had trouble delivering a message, and hovering over it shows the reason. After repeated delivery failures an integration is switched off and marked auto-paused. Fix the cause, such as a removed bot or changed permissions, then select Resume.

#Permissions to check

  • Discord, deleting messages. To delete a Discord-written message from the Hive3 side, the bot needs the Manage Messages permission. If you connected before this was required, invite the bot again with Add Bot or grant that permission in Discord.
  • Telegram, reactions. Reactions only sync when the bot is a group administrator.
