A credential is a digital badge that someone can claim and keep in their wallet. Use one to recognize a contributor, mark a milestone, or give members something to show for being part of your community.
Who can do this: the owner, admins and moderators of a community on Honey Bee or higher.
#Choose the network first
New credentials are set up automatically on the network you choose in Settings. Existing credentials keep the network they were created on.
SettingsCredentialsUnder Credential network, pick a network from the cards. A card marked Claimers use their own wallet is a network where Hive3 wallets are not available, so people claiming on it must bring their own wallet. See Wallets.
If you are on Worker Bee, this section explains that credentials come with Honey Bee and shows a View plans button.
#Create a credential
The credential wizard has three steps: Metadata, Configuration and Review. Open it at app.hive3.tech/create/credential. If you are not on a paid plan, the page tells you credentials are included with Honey Bee and above, with an Upgrade button.
#Step 1: Metadata
Name it
Enter a Credential Name of up to 100 characters, for example Event Attendee Badge. It is required.
Describe it
Write a Description of up to 1,000 characters that says what the credential represents. It is required.
Add an image
Hive3 generates a badge from the name. To use your own artwork instead, select Upload image and choose a PNG, JPG, GIF or WebP image between 512 and 4096 pixels on each side and up to 10 MB. Once you have uploaded your own, the reset button on the image (Use generated badge) brings the generated badge back.
Add attributes (optional)
Select Add Attribute to add details such as a rarity or category. Each attribute has a trait type and a value.
Continue
Select Continue.
#Step 2: Configuration
Set the supply
Under Maximum Supply, enter the most credentials that can be claimed. Leave it at 0 for unlimited supply.
Choose who can claim
Under Who can claim, pick one:
- Anyone with the link: anyone who opens the credential's page can claim it.
- Only people I award it to: only people you award it to can claim it.
Continue
Check the Configuration Summary and select Continue.
#Step 3: Review
The Review & Create step shows your credential summary: name, description, image, attributes, supply and who can claim. Select Previous to change anything, or Create Credential to finish.
You land on the credential's own page. Hive3 sets the credential up on the network in the background, and the page shows its progress, such as Setting up on followed by the network name. If setup fails, Hive3 retries automatically, and you can select Retry to try again yourself. People can claim once setup is confirmed.
#Award a credential to people
Awarding picks the people who can claim. It is available for custom credentials, whether they are open to anyone or award-only.
Open the credential
Go to the credential's page. As a manager you see an Award to people button below the details.
Enter handles
Select Award to people. In the Award credential window, type the handles of the people you want to reward, such as
@alice, @bob. Separate up to 50 handles with commas, spaces or new lines.Award
Select Award credential. A message confirms how many people were awarded and lists any handles Hive3 could not find.
Each person you award gets a notification that reads "You've been awarded a credential" and asks them to claim it. Awarding someone who already has the award does nothing, so it is safe to paste the same list twice.
#What people do next
Recipients open the notification, select the credential, and claim it with a wallet. They can use their Hive3 wallet, secured by a passkey on their device, or a wallet they already own. The steps for them are in Your credentials.
