A member is anyone who has joined your community. You decide how people get in: instantly, after you approve them, or after they subscribe. The Members page is where you review applications and look after the people who have joined.
Who can do this: the owner, admins and moderators can review applications and open the Members page. Requiring approval or a subscription needs a Honey Bee or higher plan. See Roles and permissions for what each role can do.
#Choose how people join
Your community's access setting controls what visitors see on your page.
My HiveMy DashboardAccount BuilderCommunity settingsOpen your dashboard (or the dashboard of the community you manage), choose Account Builder, then open Community settings. Under Community access you pick one of four options:
| Option | What it means | What visitors see |
|---|---|---|
| Open | Anyone can follow instantly. | Join Community |
| Private | Require approval before someone can follow. | Apply to Join, then Pending Approval until you decide |
| Open + Subscription | A paid subscription is required to follow. | Subscribe |
| Private + Subscription | Require both approval and a paid subscription. | Apply to Join, then Subscribe once approved |
The two subscription options stay unavailable until you have created at least one subscription plan. When you choose one, a Required subscription plan menu appears so you can pick which plan unlocks your community. See Get paid to create a plan.
#Open the Members page
My HiveMy DashboardMembersThe Members card on your dashboard shows how many members you have. When applications are waiting, it also shows how many are pending, with a red badge on the icon.
The page is titled Account Members. Across the top you see the totals for Total Members, Active Members and Staff Members (owners, admins and moderators together).
#Review applications
Open the pending list
Select Pending. The number in brackets is how many applications are waiting.
Read each application
Every card shows the applicant's name and email address, and when they applied.
Decide
Select Approve to let the person in, or Deny to turn the application down. An approved applicant becomes a member straight away.
When someone applies, Hive3 sends a notification to the owner and to every admin. Moderators can review applications from the Members page but are not sent the notification.
#Find people in your member list
- Type in the search box to find a member by name or handle.
- Choose Filter by Role and pick All Roles, Owner, Admin, Moderator or Member.
The table shows each member's role, when they joined, their subscription and their status.
#Message or remove a member
Open the three-dot menu at the end of a member's row.
| Menu item | What it does | Who sees it |
|---|---|---|
| Send Message | Opens a new direct message to that person. | Everyone who can open the page |
| Change Role | Opens Permissions. | Owner and admins |
| Remove Member | Removes the person from your community. | See below |

A few rules apply:
- Moderators can remove regular members only. Owners and admins can also remove admins and moderators.
- The owner can never be removed.
- You cannot remove someone who still has paid access. The dialog tells you the date their current billing period ends. Wait until it passes so they receive the full term they paid for.
#What happens next
- Members can see your members-only content once they are in.
- To change who can help you manage applications, see Roles and permissions.
- To send everyone an update, see Email broadcasts.
