Communities are where most of Hive3 happens: they publish events, courses, quests, jobs, content and posts, and the ones you join feed your home page. This page shows you how to find them and how to get in.
Anyone can browse. Joining, applying and subscribing need a Hive3 account, and the free Worker Bee plan is enough for all three. If you are signed out when you choose to join, Hive3 asks you to sign in or create an account first and then finishes the join for you.
#Find communities and accounts
Hive3 separates two directories. A community is an account on a paid plan, and people join it. Everyone else appears under accounts. Both have their own page, and Discover searches across both.
| Where | What you find |
|---|---|
| Discover | Search and browse communities, accounts, events, courses, quests and content in one place. |
| Explore Communities on the home page | The Communities directory, with a Search communities... box. |
| Accounts directory | People and other free accounts, with a Search accounts... box. From an empty home feed, select Find accounts. |
#Search with Discover
Open Discover
Select Discover in the sidebar. On a phone, use the Discover icon in the bottom bar.
Type what you are looking for
Enter at least three characters in Search for anything.... Hive3 waits a moment after you stop typing, then shows a Searching label with your words and a Clear button. Fewer than three characters shows a hint instead of results.
Narrow the results
Use the tabs All, Communities, Accounts, Events, Courses, Quests and Content. A tab with no matches is greyed out.
Filter by topic (optional)
Select Filters to open Filter Results. Pick one or more topic badges, or type in Search badges... to find one. Your picks show next to Active Filters; Clear All removes them.
Open a result
Select a card to open the account, event, course, quest or piece of content.
Without a search, each tab lists items from that directory, and See all at the end of a tab opens the full directory for that type. Jobs are not in Discover; open Jobs in the sidebar. See Find and apply for jobs.
#Join, apply or subscribe
Every account chooses how people get in. The button on its page tells you which kind you are looking at.
| The account is... | The button says | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Open | Join Community | You join at once. The button changes to Joined. |
| Private | Apply to Join | Your application goes to the account's admins. The button shows Pending Approval until they decide. |
| Open and paid | Subscribe | There is no approval step. You subscribe to the plan and get access to what it unlocks. |
| Private and paid | Apply to Join, then Subscribe | An admin approves you first. After approval the button becomes Subscribe, and Subscribed once you have paid. |
An account's owner sees no join button on their own page.
#Join an open community
Open the community's page
Select its card in Discover or the Communities directory.
Select Join Community
The button changes to Joined. A bell button appears beside it.
To leave, point at Joined: it turns into Leave Community. Select it to leave.
#Apply to a private community
Select Apply to Join
The button changes to Pending Approval. The account's admins are notified of your application.
Wait for a decision
Come back to the community's page or My Hive. Once an admin approves you, the button shows Joined (or Subscribe if the community is also paid).
Content that needs membership stays behind a Private Content panel until you are in. An event from a private community shows a prompt to join or apply first, with a View community button.
#Subscribe to a paid community
Select Subscribe, or open the Offerings tab and pick a plan. Payment, renewals and cancelling are covered in Tickets and subscriptions.
#What membership gives you
- Posts from the community appear in The Buzz, including posts marked Members only. See Posts and the Buzz.
- Events, courses and content that the community restricts to members open up.
- If the community is on a paid plan, a shared chat for its members appears in Messages.
- A bell button next to Joined turns notifications from that community on or off. Its tooltip reads "Notifications on for this account" or "Notifications off for this account".
#The tabs on an account page
Every account page has Overview, Activity, Communities, Credentials and Affiliates. These appear when the account has something to show: Offerings, Events, Metaverse, Content, Courses, Jobs, NFTs, Quests and Streams.
#See what you have joined
My HiveCommunitiesMy Hive lists the communities you have joined on its Communities tab, and free accounts you have joined on its Accounts tab. The other tabs gather your events, courses, quests and job applications.
