Messages is where private conversations and community chats live. You can message any account directly, and every paid community you have joined has a shared chat for its members.
Everyone can read and reply to messages. Starting a brand-new direct message needs Honey Bee+. If you are on Worker Bee, you can still reply to anyone who messages you.
#Open Messages
Select the Chats icon in the sidebar's quick actions, or Messages in the bottom bar on a phone. The list shows your conversations, newest first, with an unread count on each. Three buttons sit above it: New Message, Unknown and Archived.
#Start a conversation
Select New Message
The New Message window opens.
Search for an account
Type in Search for accounts... and pick the person or community from the results.
Check the warning (if shown)
If neither of you has joined the other, Hive3 shows Not Collaborating: "Your message will be displayed in their Unknown inbox and they will have to accept it first." Select Continue to go ahead, which sends a 👋 to open the conversation, or Cancel.
Write your message
Type in Type a message.... Press Enter to send, or Shift+Enter for a new line.
A message can hold up to 4,000 characters. Use the emoji button to add emoji and Attach image to send a picture; a small note shows Image ready to send before you send it.
#Work with a message
Open the three-dot menu next to a message (Message actions, or Own message actions on yours):
- Reply quotes the message in your next one. Select the X on the quote (Cancel reply) to drop it.
- React opens an emoji picker. Reactions appear under the message with a count; select one to add or remove yours.
- Edit and Delete are available on your own messages. An edited message shows (edited).
#Messages from people you do not know
A message from someone whose conversation you have not accepted goes to the Unknown inbox instead of your main list. A red count on Unknown shows how many are waiting.
Open Unknown
Select Unknown. The Unknown Messages list appears, with a warning mark on each conversation.
Open a conversation
A window titled Unknown User warns you to be careful with personal information and asks "Do you accept the risk?"
Choose
Select Accept Risk to read the conversation and move it to your main list, or Cancel to leave it unopened.
Until you accept, the sender can send up to 5 messages. You can archive a conversation from the Unknown list without opening it.
#Archive and mute
Open Chat options (three dots) at the top of a conversation:
- Notifications on / Notifications off switches notifications for that conversation.
- Archive Chat removes it from your main list.
You can also select the archive icon next to a conversation in the list. Select Archived to see archived chats, and the unarchive icon to bring one back. Opening an archived conversation also restores it.
#Community chats
For every community on a paid plan that you have joined, an Account Channel conversation appears in your list. It is a shared chat for the community's members. You can reply, react and attach images the same way as in a direct message. Moderators can delete other people's messages in the channel.
If the community connects Discord or Telegram, messages from those apps appear in the same chat with a small marker showing where they came from.
