Posts and the Buzz

Read the home feed, write posts, and reply to, like and mention other people.

The Buzz is the feed on your home page. It is where the communities and accounts you have joined talk to you, and where you talk back. Reading, liking and commenting are free on every plan.

#Read The Buzz

Select the Home icon in the sidebar, or Home in the bottom bar on a phone. Under the welcome banner, The Buzz shows posts from your own account and from every account you have joined, newest first. More posts load as you scroll.

On a computer, Featured sits in the column beside the feed: highlights picked by Hive3. On a phone, Featured is a second tab next to The Buzz.

If you have not joined anything yet, the feed shows Nothing to show yet with three buttons: View communities, Find accounts and Discover. Joining a community is the fastest way to fill the feed. See Discover and join communities.

The Buzz lists posts from your own account and every account you have joined.

#Write a post

  1. Open the composer

Select the pen icon labelled Create post in the sidebar's quick actions. On a phone, select the plus (+) button in the bottom bar. You need to be signed in.

  2. Choose who is posting (optional)

The picker at the top starts as you. If you are an owner, admin or moderator of a community, you can post as it instead.

  3. Write your post

Type in the box that reads What's happening?. A counter shows how much of the 2000-character limit you have used. Pasting a link adds a preview below the text.

  4. Add extras (optional)

Use the toolbar under the box:

    • Attach image adds one picture.
    • Link content lets you search for a course, quest, job, content item or event and attach it to your post.
    • Type @ and a name to mention someone, or # and a word to add a hashtag.
  5. Post

Select Post. A confirmation appears and the composer closes.

The composer: write, optionally attach an image or link something from Hive3, then select Post.

#Save a draft

Select the save icon (Save draft) to keep a post for later. Hive3 also saves your work as you type and shows Draft saved. Open your drafts from the button at the top right of the composer to resume or delete one.

#Who can see a post

The toggle in the toolbar chooses the audience.

SettingWho sees the post
PublicAnyone, signed in or not.
Members onlyOnly the owner and people who have joined that account.

#Mentions

When you mention an account with @, a list of matching accounts appears as you type. Pick one and they are notified that you mentioned them. You can mention up to 10 accounts in one post.

#Like and comment

Each post shows a heart with a count and a speech bubble with the number of comments.

  • Select the heart to like a post. Select it again to remove your like.
  • Select the speech bubble, or the post itself, to open it in full.

#Reply to a post

  1. Open the post

The post opens with its comments below.

  2. Write your reply

Type in Reply with a thought, @mention, or image. Select the Mention someone button to insert an @, or Attach image to add a picture.

  3. Send

Select Send reply, or press Enter. Use Shift+Enter for a new line.

Each comment has its own heart, so you can like comments too. The Comment actions menu (three dots) gives you Edit and Delete on your own comments. The author of a post, and moderators of the account it belongs to, can delete any comment on it.

Open a post to read the comments and reply.

#Manage your own posts

Open a post and select Post actions (three dots):

  • Edit changes your post's text, image or audience.
  • Delete removes it after you confirm. Moderators of a community can delete posts on that community's account too.
  • Share copies a link to the post, with the message Link copied to clipboard.

#Tips

  • People are notified when you mention them, and when someone likes or comments on your post. See Notifications.
  • You only see Members only posts from accounts you have joined. If a post is missing from your feed, check that you are still a member.
